Website Designer, Burton Jamison is a native Marylander, and has
made Kent Island on Maryland's Eastern Shore his home since 1991.
Burton has been designing
websites since 1997. He says he ended up there by default...
You see, he has been
in the mortgage business since 1986. In 1995 he became the
owner of a local mortgage company in Stevensville. Back in 1997 he
contacted a company to design his first mortgage company web site.
He had tried to do it himself and gave up. He knew what he wanted
for the layout and color scheme and put it on paper. And he got what
he asked for. Well sort of...
The website turned
out well, on time and on budget, but there were things that needed
to be tweaked... and updated. So he learned how to do it himself.
The hard way. By trial and error. He hit the books. Books
on Web Site Design, HTML, Javascript, graphic arts/ graphic editing, CSS,
SEO, meta tags and a lot more.
Soon he was able
to alter the various website pages to match what he envisioned. Did
he stop with just one company website? Heck no, he went on to build
several other company websites that brought him thousands of inquiries
to his mortgage business from the Internet...
Word got around and
he had other site job requests. American Web Page Design was now
officially in the business of website design for others, but...
Burton was extremely
busy managing his mortgage business and was not that interested in designing
for others...
As luck would have
it, his step son was excited about web site design and was learning website
design himself. So when Burton offered him control of the business,
he jumped on it. Well sort of...
His step son did
great work, but the work was not steady, and it was not an hourly position.
He needed a weekly paycheck. So he decided to accept a full time job with
a steady paycheck. So less than a year later, Burton found himself
managing his fledgling web site design business again, but...
He was still busy
managing his mortgage company, so the website design business once again
took a back burner. He did an occasional site in his spare time,
and was constantly tweaking and updating his own sites, learning along
the way. As Burton designed sites for other businesses, he discovered
that he enjoyed it. He was constantly reading and learning...
In 2007 when the
mortgage meltdown began, he turned to website design for additional cash
flow. The mortgage business got worse, and in early 2008 he chose
not to renew his Maryland Lender's license and closed his mortgage business
of 13 years...
Luckily for him he
had something to fall back on...
Fast forward to the
present. He recently obtained more domain names and is building more
websites for company use, such as Talisman Website Design. He figures
what worked for the mortgage business should work for his website design
business. Who said you can only have one website for your business?
It sure wasn't Burton.
Burton is still designing
websites. (He has designed several dozen websites since the early
days). In addition to that, he offers an inexpensive website update
service. His update rate is $20 an hour under most circumstances.
Talisman Website
Design specializes in Google Top Ten Search Engine Placement, without using
Pay Per Click. The search results are all organic, meaning there
are no costs to be listed on the search results.
Burton says:
"If a business is not worried about placement in the search engines, meaning
their potential customers already know what they want, (such as information
about a particular Paul Reed Smith guitar from PRS Guitars here in Stevensville),
then the layout/ design should have top priority, without regard for placement
in the top 10. A person looking for information on PRS Guitars will
type in PRS or Paul Reed Smith guitars, if you get my point, and their
site will be in the top ten, most likely number one.
However, if someone
is considering buying a PRS Guitar, then a dealer or seller of PRS
Guitars had better think long and hard about search engine friendly website
and web page design".
Which he did.
Burton had a PRS guitar for sale, a CE 24 model in Scarlet Red. He
did a search on Google March 3, 2010 and a search for "red prs ce 24 ",
"red prs ce-24 ", "prs ce 24 red", and "prs ce-24 red"; all four searches
came up #1 of more than 17,400 possible pages. Number One out of
seventeen thousand, four hundred possible results. PRS Guitars were
#3 & #4. A search for a "red prs ce24" (no space or hyphen
between ce 24) has his site #1 of 3,100; the PRS website is #5. How
is that for results? The guitar has been sold to someone who found
it looking online for a PRS CE 24 guitar.
What is Burton's
secret. He won't say. But he does say this:
"It is not an exact
science, and some try to call it luck. I don't consider it "luck",
it is methodical hard work with specific results in mind. My results
speak for themselves. View my testimonials. I have been very
successful in getting businesses into the Google Top Ten, with many at
Number 1 for specific search phrases used by someone searching for the
products or services provided by their business".
He adds: "If
you have a business and are not yet on the net, you owe it to yourself
and to your business... please call me. I can get you online quickly,
at a price you can afford, and maybe into the Google Top 10 for your type
of business just like I did for My Various Company Websites; Atlantic Shoreline;
Eastern Bay Trading Company; Backyard Billy's; and others. If you
already have a web site and are not satisfied with the search engine placement,
please call me".
